Former Intern becomes Moreland Resource Consulting LLC first employee.

"I am really connected to inspiration and inspiring others. It can be exceedingly difficult to see a better tomorrow or a brighter future, when you are not happy and when everything around you is not in alignment with your true path."

Shawnetta Nelson, a Portland native, and twin attended John Marshall Highschool, Biz Tech campus and attended Portland Community College and Mt. Hood Community College thereafter. She hopes to pursue a career in multimedia. She is the mother of three-year old Zakai Deshawn Hall who loves to dance every day.

Moreland Resource consulting was connected with Shawnetta through the Jobs Plus Internship program administered by PCC Workforce Center. As an intern Shawnetta assisted Moreland Resource Consulting with several projects, including oral history interviews, transcriptions, and writing oral summaries, and project team meetings. When asked about her internship experience, Shawnetta commented, "I enjoyed the internship because I learned so many new things and I had the opportunity to meet so many wonderful, talented, passionate, and successful people. I am grateful I had the opportunity to meet and connect with Kimberly, and that I get to work for her and receive guidance on a regular basis".

I am very pleased to have Shawnetta as my first employee. Her kind thoughtfulness and her willingness to learn was a great asset during the internship.  Shawnetta says her most impactful moment in the internship is “being able to hear all of the stories and experiences that have been shared in the oral interviews. The interviewees as well as Kimberly have a strong magnitude of inner strength, intellect, strong-willpower, and worked hard to rise above despite their circumstances. It is truly inspiring to me.”

Shawnetta says her favorite thing to do is taking her son to the park, or just taking a walk. “I love watching funny and inspiring YouTube videos featuring people from all walks of life.” The videos are humbling and reminds her to stay in a mental state of gratitude and optimism. “That is what helps me to keep going and to strive for more.

I am really connected to inspiration and inspiring others. It can be exceedingly difficult to see a better tomorrow or a brighter future, when you are not happy and when everything around you is not in alignment with your true path. I am going to build a social media platform using YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and a website where I can be my authentic self and inspire people to keep going. I want to share my journey, have fun, and interact with others; I want to help people to realize that they are enough and to keep going. I am learning how to love myself more, and I know how important and crucial it is to reach my full potential and to live a happier life overall, and I want others to know that as well. I am a work in progress, I am still trying to figure my life out.” Shawnetta said that the internship has taught her she can help others to become better; to be a source of guidance and inspiration.
